Frosting is delicious, but it often has a lot of sugar. If you’ve been here for a while, you know I’ve made homemade frosting quite a few times. I’ve made Salted Chocolate Buttercream Frosting, Refined-Sugar Free Vanilla Buttercream, and now Cream Cheese Frosting.
This frosting is very simple; it’s quick and has only four ingredients. We put it on any cakes (so good on Gluten-Free White Cake), cupcakes (Spice Cupcakes? Yes, please!), carrot cake waffles, or even use it as a fruit dip!
Cream Cheese Frosting
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 cup powdered sucanat (if you don’t have powdered, just run sucanat through a blender or food processor)
Directions:
Step 1: Add the butter and cream cheese to a medium bowl.
Step 2: Add the vanilla.
Step 3: Beat this mixture together briefly with a hand mixture. This is easier if the butter and cream cheese are softened.
Step 4: Add the sucanat, then beat again. That’s it! Once it’s fully mixed, it’s done!

thinking about using coconut oil instead of butter as I am out of vanilla and that would add a nice, sweet, mild coconut flavor. any thoughts on this?
