Recipe Collection: Best Thanksgiving Recipes

admin November 15, 2012

Next week is Thanksgiving — can you believe it?  Just one week away!  Sometimes I can barely believe it’s 2012 and the year’s almost over.

We’re busy preparing our family for the holidays and I don’t have a new recipe for you this week.  Sorry. But I am going to tell you about some of my best older recipes that you may have missed that are perfect for the upcoming Thanksgiving.

If you’re hosting, you may be looking for ways to make old favorites without the junk.  If you’re not hosting, you may be looking for a side dish or dessert to take along with you.  Either way, I’ve got lots of ideas for you!

Holiday Favorite Recipes

All of these are completely real-food-based!  I personally can’t wait to eat all of these delicious foods next week.  I will probably even make big batches of my favorites so that I can have them a few times in the next month or so.  I’m wondering if my French-fried onions (homemade) would freeze well so I could make green bean casserole like, once a week in December….

Two Great Books

Of course, while the recipes above are very traditional and are most peoples’ favorites, who wants to only stick to the old standbys?  You need a special Thanksgiving morning breakfast, and of course there are more holidays and holiday parties coming up.

I have two ebooks that fit the bill.  First, there’s Wholesome Comfort.  This is a book filled with 42 comfort food recipes that are perfect for the holiday season.  It includes:

  • Cream Soup Base (for all your favorite soup-based casseroles)
  • Roast Beef
  • Roast Turkey
  • Breakfast Sausage
  • Scalloped Potatoes
  • Twice-Baked Potatoes
  • Soaked Whole Wheat Bread
  • Almond Flour Dinner Rolls
  • Biscuits
  • Apple Pie with Crumb Topping
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Chocolate-Peanut Butter Fudge
  • …and many more!

These are perfect to share with friends, take to parties, make for a special breakfast, serve for afternoon snack or tea, and lots more!  The book sells for only $8.95 (which is lower than when the book came out), a total steal for these 42 awesome, reader-tested recipes.

Second, there’s Treat Yourself: Real Food Desserts.  Who doesn’t want to have some sweets this holiday season?  There will be holidays parties filled with desserts, cookie exchanges, and so much more.  While all that sugar isn’t so great for you, that doesn’t mean you have to pass up everything.  With this book, which contains no vegetable oils, white flour, white sugar, shortening, or other “junk,” you can enjoy a little dessert without feeling awful afterwards.  This book contains favorites like:

  • Vanilla Sponge Cake
  • Lemon Cake (grain-free)
  • Spice Cake (grain-free)
  • Cream Cheese Frosting
  • Vanilla Bean Cheesecake
  • Butter Cookies
  • Cinnamon Rolls
  • Crepes
  • Scones
  • Pie Crust (grain-free)
  • Chocolate Pie
  • …and more!

There are so many great options in this book.  (Believe me, it was fun to create!)  If you’re looking for a treat to share, cookies to make for a holiday decorating party, a Thanksgiving morning breakfast treat, or any other dessert or treat, this book is perfect.  And no junk, and several grain-free options!  This book sells for just $7.95.

A NEW Awesome Option

Jill, the editor of Modern Alternative Kitchen, has been hard at work on a new book (with her team of contributors).  It’s called Festive Traditions: A Real Food Guide to the Holidays.  This book comes out next Friday.  Not in time for Thanksgiving, but definitely in time for most of your holiday parties and Christmas celebrations.

Festive Traditions contains all the recipes you’ll need to celebrate an excellent holiday season, including plenty of appetizers and party-friendly favorites.  You’ll see recipes like:

  • Spinach Artichoke Dip
  • Parmesan Stuffed Mushrooms
  • Pastured Egg Nog
  • Butternut Squash Soup with Ginger Cream
  • Sweet Potato Casserole
  • Autumn Stuffed Squash
  • Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars
  • Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce
  • Gingerbread Muffins
  • …and more!

There are 32 recipes in this excellent new collection.  The vast majority are grain and/or gluten-free.  The book will sell for $7.95, but there will be some excellent launch-weekend specials, so don’t miss that. 🙂

What are your holiday favorites?
