Within the past few months, I have realized the need to add avocados to my diet. From good heart health to fighting cancer, this fruit has given me more than one good reason to add them to my “super foods” list.
When eaten with other foods, avocados will actually increase the nutrient absorption of those other foods. How cool is that?!
Here is a list of 10 other reasons I’ve added avocados to my diet:
- Contains 25 essential vitamins and nutrients
- Full of antioxidants
- Lowers cholesterol
- Promotes a healthy heart
- Fights free radicals
- Controls blood pressure
- Contains anti-inflammatory properties
- Protects against cancer
- Regulates blood sugar levels
- Promotes good eye health
It is so easy to add this food to your diet! Here are some ways I have added avocados to my diet:
Straight out of the shell!
Many people like to eat avocado straight from the shell sprinkled with salt and lime juice.
Chocolate Avocado Pudding
Ingredients:
1 Avocado
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup raw honey
1 tsp. vanilla
7 tablespoons raw milk

Scoop meat out of avocado and place in a blender. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
Guacamole
Ingredients:
2 large avocados
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tomato, chopped
Juice from 1 Lime
Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions:
Spoon out the avocado meat into a bowl and mash until it’s smooth. Stir in the rest of the ingredients. Serve with chips, crackers, or whole wheat pita bread.
Avocado Blueberry Smoothie

4 cups water {can also use juice or raw milk}
1 cup ice
1 avocado
2 bananas
1 cup blueberries
2 spoonfuls of raw honey
Directions:
Scoop meat out of avocado and blend it in a blender with the rest of the ingredients.

I’ve tried all sorts of ways to eat avocados, but no matter what I do, my stomach hurts terribly afterwards! Any suggestions?
Avocados upset my stomach as well, so if anyone has any information about that, I would love to hear about it!
Are you allergic to latex? Avocados are in the same family.
Shelly, do you take digestive enzymes before meals? I would suggest trying enzymes and/or raw apple cider vinegar before you eat them. Thanks for the question!
I either slice it up on my salad or I put it in a chopper along with an apple or banana and make a baby food kind of meal out of it, which I eat and share with my kids.
I only started to eat avocado about a year or so ago and boy do I love it. I have tried all of the above ideas (except the pudding, which is now on my “to do” list. I have a great recipe for Avocado Brownies that I make as well.
Oh YUM! I love avocados and knew they were good for you, but had no idea they were THAT good! Can’t wait to make guacamole now!
I love the guacamole, Melissa – it’s probably my favorite way to eat avocados. 🙂
I adore avocados. I just made a delectable vegan avocado brownie (egg allergy for my little one) which was delicious. We have them in smoothies all the time. They are also delicious with a little balsamic vinegar and salt.
I love an avocado sandwich on toasted whole grain bread with real mayonnaise.
Avocados are my new favorite thing! 🙂
I just tried the avocado chocolate pudding…YUM!!!!! Thank you so much, I’ve been looking for an easy, “healthy” dessert!! 🙂
Blessings to you, thank you for all the great posts,

Straight from the shell sprinkled with salt, cumin and a little red pepper, when I’m too pressed for time to make guac or just super hungry and need something quick.
