5 Ways Eucalyptus Oil Can Improve Your Health

Eucalyptus oil is a great essential oil to have in your natural remedy arsenal. Eucalyptus oil has anti-biotic, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-septic and anti-bacterial properties. Eucalyptus oil can also be used as a decongestant to ease cough and cold symptoms. Inhaling vapor from a few drops of the oil helps to break up mucus. It is cooling and penetrating so it can help ease muscular pain, headaches, sinusitis, arthritis, and insect bites. Eucalyptus oil reduces swelling by helping to increase blood flow. It can also be used to repel insects. Eucalyptus oil should be diluted prior to topical use. It may be diluted with a carrier oil such as jojoba, grapeseed, olive or almond oil. Eucalyptus oil is not for use during pregnancy or on children under 2.

1. Use it to replace anti-bacterial cleaners which can be harmful to your health

2 cups water

1/4 cup liquid castile soap

1 tbs. tea tree essential oil

10 drops eucalyptus oil

2. Add to the laundry

Add 5 drops Eucalyptus oil to 1 cup white vinegar and add to you washer along with your normal laundry detergent.

washing. Inhaling the vapors can ease symptoms during cold and sinus trouble.

3. Compress to Relieve Headache

Fill a large bowl with cold, but not icy water. Sprinkle in a couple of drops of Eucalyptus essential oil. Swirl a washcloth in the

water, then gently wring it out.

Place the washcloth over the forehead and leave for 10 min. Refresh as necessary as the cloth warms up.

4. Relief from Fainting

Aromatherapists suggest placing a drop or two of eucalyptus oil on a cloth and holding it under the nose to revive someone who has fainted.


5. Bronchial and Cough Relief

Inhaling the vapors of Eucalyptus oil can help treat bronchitis and coughs. Boil a pot of water, remove from heat and add a few

drops of Eucalyptus oil to the water. Place a towel over your head and place you head over the water. Inhale the steam for several

minutes. (Stay a safe distance from the water and pan to keep from getting burned of course!)

  1. Does anybody know if it is cloth diaper safe? I’d love to add it to my laundry regimen.


  2. I have used this oil when I have been exposed to the cold and flu virus as a preventive measure. I work with young children. I simply inhale into each side of my nose 3-4 times daily. I also use it when I travel after being in an airplane or sleeping in hotels to prevent getting sick. This is relatively new to me but I must admit I like it so far!


  3. My daughter was really sick with a cold one day last week. That evening I covered her bed with a mix of baking soda and eucalyptus oil, let it sit for a while and then vacuumed it up. She was better the next day, more clear headed and along with a wash down, vacuum and full cleaning of her room, the oil worked wonders. I love the idea of putting it in with the wash, though!
