Essential oils have been used for thousands of years to support the body in healing itself. Oils have become quite popular over the last several years, and for good reason. They are powerhouses for supporting total well-being – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
We use oils every day in our house. I love that my children feel empowered to use the oils for themselves. The following recipe is one that I use most often in our house. My kids roll a dab of this on their wrists every morning before school.
Emotional Benefits
One of the things I love most about essential oils is that they are good for so many things. We aren’t just supporting our physical bodies, but we are supporting our emotional well-being too! Listed below are some of the emotional benefits of each oil.
Lemon – The aroma of lemon supports the body in releasing confusion, mental fatigue, lack of focus, lack of joy and energy, and guilt. The aroma of lemon inspires joy and assists with learning.
Frankincense – The aroma of frankincense supports the body in releasing abandonment, vulnerability, and disconnection.
Spruce – The aroma of spruce supports the body in releasing instability, mood extremes, exhaustion, depletion, and feeling ungrounded. Spruce is very stabilizing and grounding.
Tea tree – The aroma of tea tree supports the body in releasing codependent relationships, toxicity, and poor boundaries. Tea tree is empowering and helps people stand up for themselves and drop feelings of responsibility for other’s problems.
The above information comes from one of my favorite books, Emotional Healing with Essential Oils, by Daniel Macdonald.
Emotional Support Essential Oil Blend
Note: Essential oils are powerful. They need to be diluted, applied sparingly and kept out of the reach of small children. Many essential oils are unsafe for children under 10 (check out our blog, How to Safely Use Essential Oils with Children). This blend is safe for ages 2 and up.
Ingredients:
- 7 drops of lemon essential oil
- 3 drops of frankincense essential oil
- 2 drops of spruce essential oil
- 5 drops of tea tree essential oil
Directions:
Step 1: Combine oils in a 10ml roller bottle.
Step 2: Fill the remainder of the bottle with a carrier oil. I like to use fractionated coconut oil for this but use whatever oil suits your family best.
Editor’s Note: If you are using this blend on your children, you may want to premix the oils in a separate bottle and then only add 1 to 2 drops per 10 ml of carrier oil to protect their sensitive skin and not overload their little systems.
Label your roller bottle. Use as needed. I like to put this on my children’s wrists before school or an outing.
