Are you interested in brewing kombucha, but feel overwhelmed by the process? Not sure where to start? Need a visual on how to make it work?
Well…we’ve just released a video on how to brew your own kombucha! I walk you through the process, showing you all of the equipment, the process of starting your brew, cautions about what could go wrong (and how to prevent that), and how to bottle your kombucha in the double fermentation method. I demonstrate how to create pineapple and (my favorite) strawberry lemonade flavors.
I know when I first started brewing, it took me several batches to figure it out, and I was very intimidated by the process. I read directions over and over and over on various blogs, trying to make sure I understood how to do it. More recently, I looked at various kombucha videos, because I know many of you are visual learners (me too), and I was a bit disappointed with them. Many just did not go into detail about the process or actually do it, they just showed the equipment and briefly talked about how one would do the steps. Not very helpful.
So, I created my own video on how to brew your own kombucha. You can view it right here:
Kombucha eBook
Some of you (also like me) love the visual, but also want more information about kombucha. What are the health benefits and why should you brew it? What are other flavors? What is the probiotic content? How to troubleshoot your brew? and so on.
It’s not really feasible to discuss all that in a short video, plus it would be hard to remember! Instead, I’ve created an accompanying ebook all about kombucha.

Do you brew kombucha or are you hoping to start? What is your favorite flavor, or what has been holding you back?
Thanks! This was helpful! Looking forward to trying my own kombucha soon.
I’ve just started brewing my own kombucha. My husband jokingly tells me that I’m “going to go blind if I drink it.” I have to admit that it is a little spooky-looking at first. I get paranoid that I did something wrong and it will make me sick somehow. But, my first batch turned out great, but my second got a tiny spot of mod on it, so I threw it out. I’m working on a third batch that should be ready in a couple of days. My fingers are crossed that this one turns out… 🙂
Love this! I just started my first batch yesterday! this will be so helpful for figuring out what to do with it now and for future batches! 🙂
I have been wanting to try this for a LONG time! Thanks for the great tutorial – I think it’s high time I try!
This video is REALLY excellent for a first video on a blog. I’ve seen my share of super bad ones. I just wanted you to know that the quality was great. I already brew kombucha, but I watched the entire video and thought is was well done. I appreciated the information about how long to brew based on the temperature in your house. We live in Alaska and keep our house at 60ish, so no wonder it takes *forever* for our kombucha to brew!
Thanks for the video! I will be referring clients here to watch it as I recommend Kombucha!
I already subscribe but cannot seem to get the free code to work. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Love kombucha! Everyone should make it at home it’s so easy and cheap. Nice video too! 🙂 But aren’t these cultures dehydrated though? I’ve never used those. I heard it takes like 4-6 weeks and they get moldy half the time? It’s a living drink so it seems weird to start with a dried out thing to make it. You can get fresh ones and save a bunch of time and hassle over dried out ones. Wouldn’t bother with those.
Great video! I’m working on growing my own scoby in my pantry right now, figers crossed.

Great video!! There is another option for getting a scoby- you can make your own! If you are able to buy a health store bottle of kombucha, just pour it into a bowl and let it sit on your counter (covered) until a scoby grows. This is a great option for someone who doesn’t want to mail order one 🙂
My favorite flavor is pineapple 🙂 I love my booch!
Great information and video on Kombucha! Would love to start brewing my own, but I’m worried that if I’m gone for extended peroids of time that I won’t be able to manage the scooby and rotations. Do you have any tips for how to maintain your scooby while one’s gone for a week or two (or longer)?
I also cannot seem to get the free ebook – thanks for the great video!
Awesome post! Thank you for sharing this with us on Wildcrafting Wednesday! 🙂
Did you put BOTH scobies back into the new brew? It looked like one. Where’d the other one go? I accidentally ended up with FIVE. LOL What do I do with them?
Hi, 5 SCOBYs, wow! Yes, I only put one in. You can use the others to start more gallons of kombucha, or you can compost them, give them to friends who want to brew, or just throw them out. I try to give them to others when I can.

[…] Ben drinks water kefir and I drink kombucha everyday too (I tried it 6 months ago and it tastes sort of like vinegar, sort of like alcohol, bitter, strange at first. I hated it. Then I tried it again two weeks ago and liked it…and kept drinking it…and now I’m OBSESSED WITH IT!! I crave it! But it has a lot of great bacteria in it so I’m supposed to drink it, and it really just tastes like soda to me now, without the artificial aftertaste. It is carbonated. Yummy!). […] Kombucha is kind of a favorite around our home. When the kids see it in the fridge, they flip out and beg to have some. But herbal kombucha is another animal entirely…and an exciting one (at least to me!). By the way, if you’re not familiar, check out the Kombucha FAQ, or my kombucha video. […]
Is your ebook still available?
