Whether it is the holiday season and you’re indulging in desserts or just enjoy custard-style vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream, this recipe is for you!  Let’s face it: Whipped cream is one of the most popular toppings for pies, ice cream, and lots more!

From the petroleum in the container to the nitrous oxide that propels from the canister, it’s safe to say whipped cream and Cool Whip aren’t healthy.  Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to completely avoid whipped cream.   You must make your own excellent, more delicious whipped cream instead!  If you want to step it up a notch and really blow the in-laws away this year, you can even make your own vanilla extract to go with it.  For now, let me teach you how to make real whipped cream.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (less or more to taste)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:

Step 1: Add all the ingredients to a blender or glass bowl.

Step 2: Either blend on low or use a mixer to beat the cream until fluffy.

Step 3: Transfer to a glass container and store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

  1. Thanks for this! I have a whipped cream maker to review and needed a good recipe. Quick question – I no longer have a source for raw cream – only raw milk. What do you use to skip the cream off the milk (besides a spoon)? Any ideas?

    Thanks so much!

  2. Monique — Honestly, I just use a big spoon. A small gravy ladle would work too. There's not really a better way that I know, unfortunately.

  3. I will have to try this – my current whipped cream recipe uses white sugar – I never thought about switching out with maple syrup but I bet that adds a nice flavor!
