Whereas nowadays, we would probably keep the nicest bed for ourselves, in the Elizabethan era, the best bed was put in the guest room, solely for the guests.

So the bed that Shakespeare would have slept in with his wife would be the second best bed in the house. Therefore, this bed would have been the bed where they dreamt, the space that they shared and the bed that they made love in.

Good old Shakey! Looking around Anne Hathaway's house, the gardens were spectacularly beautiful and the thatched roof just tops it off to be the perfect countryside cottage. I literally was bursting with joy when I realised they had sonnet there… it is my absolute favourite. And I have read many, many sonnets in my young time.
