Finding Zoe An Amazing Book

That is exactly what occurs in this book. In Finding Zoe, the reader follows the story of Brandi Rarus, a young girl who lost her hearing at the age of Finding Zoe An Amazing Book because of spinal meningitis, and how she copes with growing up with a foot in two different worlds. Later in the story, Brandi talks about Zoe journey from her original birthmother, Jess, to the home of Brandi and Tim. While reading this book, there were several things that stood out to me, one of which being how Brandi struggled so much as a child trying to be a part of the Deaf world and the hearing world, think that was what was expected of her instead of asking herself what she wanted.

While not everyone experiences this struggle on such a large scale as Brandi did, many people, especially teens, can put themselves in that mind set of looking for themselves and trying to find who the person they want to be much as Rarus did later in life. Why or Why not?

This lady in particular feels entitled to a very specific type of child of a specific gender that's going to act a specific way because she 'deserves it'. She goes on to politely frame the underage birth mother in typical, conservative sex-shaming fashion while framing the adult birth father a man 4 years into adulthood and years older whom committed statutory rape as an upstanding guy that just made a mistake and wants to be responsible. I was ready to burn the book after the first half where she emotionally manipulates her resistant husband into agreeing to adoption when they were already financially concerned about the cost of caring for their current children and he had firmly stated his personal boundary and capabilities. But it's all okay because they're 'true Christians'! As a hearing reader, the amount of details and description placed on who was wearing what, who said what to who, what exactly the color of hair was on the woman at the boutique that was in the story for a single sentence or what the exact color of the Foster mother's apron was is all too much detail that makes it confusing to pick up on what exactly is supposed to be important in the story.
