Elie doubted his faith several times from all the bad that has happened to him.
Some of the stuff he saw scared him for life. When Elie first arrived to the camp, he probably lost his faith then. Ellie lost his faith because he just could not believe that his god would not do anything about the holocaust. When Elie first arrived to the camp called Auschwitz he saw such terrifying things. He could see black smoke which came from the crematory. When he first saw the smoke they wondered where it came from. After Elie saw where it came from it was unbearable to see what they saw.

Adults and little children would be burned right there in front of his own eyes. Some of the adults had to watch their own children get put into the fire and no grown up could watch that.
