Later, Nanci illustrated Ellen's text so that the book could be used to help other children and families also experiencing cancer of a loved one. The text is simply enough for young children to understand but informative enough source answer many of the questions and concerns that children often have.
The illustrations are soothing and soft to comfort This book was originally written by Ellen as a gift to help her cousin, Nanci, explain her cancer diagnosis to her two sons, ages 3 and 5 at the time. Some words are emphasized with bold or capitalized letters to aid families in discussing terms and feelings with children. There is also a note from the author and see more doctor in the beginning of the book that is a good resource to parents. Reading this introduction brought tears to my link and many of the lines see more the book made me cry.
