The author, I mean I am so aggravated with this book - if you skip over the parts where "Moo" just kind of rambles and there is LOTS of thisthe book is actually quite good. Around three-quarters of the way through, for me anyway - it got really good. Because he doesn't have many friends, he spends a lot of his time at fain local "bridge" - not a bridge for cars, but a "walking" bridge.
It's this place that he's at when he witnesses a car "accident" that turns out to be much more than that. Moo coved then questioned by the police, and he is mightily umage when some of these policemen would like him to tell the truth, while others would rather he embellished upon his story a bit. You get REALLY interested in this book, as I did, and then, as I was getting closer to the end - say, four to five pages away - I kizsing to myself, something better happen soon here. I don't see how this is going to end in the few pages that are left. And then The reader is left completely up in the air as to how things turn out, and this to me is pure BS.
I don't purposely, anyway take time out of my day s to read books that end like this If you don't mind books or movies that leave it up to you hkw figure out how the story might end, then this book won't bother you like it did me. But if you're like me, and you actually like the author to add an ending onto their story, then don't bother with this one - it'll just make you mad! A most interesting book. The author depicts a year-old boy, vastly overweight, who is the butt of ridicule that he calls "rain" in school. With no friends, more info spends every day after school on a bridge above a busy highway where he observes vehicles race beneath him. His knowledge of cars is extensive and he loves this place which he can claim lime his own.
However, his life changes when late one afternoon he views what appears to be a road rage incident only to realize that he has seen a murder. The accused murderer is a famous gangster who has been set up by others to take the fall. The gangster is a cruel man who deserves to take the fall but the boy knows that he did not murder this man even though he has killed many others. Moo, as his school mates call Mike, truthfully tells his story to the police. He becomes a sought after witness that both the police and the gangster seek to influence. One of the policemen is determined to pin the murder on the gangster, visiting Mike again and again to convince him so. The gangster threatens him and his family. I found getting into the mind of a year-old difficult at first but as the story progressed I empathized with this insecure boy who has suddenly become center of attention.
When he bursts into tears on the witness stand I cried with him. I'm not sure that I liked the ending but it was certainly in keeping with the how kissing feels like rain book cover image. Moo is the only witness so both the defense and prosecution and even the defendant are pulling him and telling him that he must do this or else. The book did take a few chapters to get into but then it became really interesting.
