To start this book off, we have Elle and Liam lay around not doing anything, cracking offensive jokes that rely on gender standards. So that was a fun twenty percent. Not to mention the fact that he's threatening assault on people who did absolutely nothing. And that also plays a big theme throughout the book, but that's definitely not in the way it should. Sometimes you need a little story like The Kissing Booth to help you feel like a kid again. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this was written by a kid. A 17 year old to be exact and she actually wrote it unlike just slapping her name on it like the trainwreck which was Girl Online. The story here is simple — girl and boy Elle and Lee have been best friends literally since their birth on the same day, in the same hospital. But when the school carnival rolls around and Elle and Lee find themselves running the most popular booth of all, things start going a little sideways. Which leads to Elle and Noah following the sage advice of one R. But seriously, they decide to keep it on the down low.

So many elements and layers lacked in this book, especially the cast of parental characters, who are supposed to play a strong role in the life of these teenagers, and the transition from having a mother to having no mother in the life of Elle is pathetically depicted in the book.
Like I said, the characters lacked to show any kind of emotion, only teenagers action high on their hormones. But hey, if you want to re-live your teenage summer days blazing in the afterglow of the summer sun and a hot crush's kiss on your lips, then do grab a copy of this book now, as the author has vividly painted the summer days and how teenagers waste it high on alcohol, parties, kisses and one-night stands. Older brother is possessive and like to fight. Girl and boy date in secret. Shit hits the fa 1. Shit hits the fan. It recovers. Oh no It's okay again, we can ride off on a bike in the happy sunset not actually true but you get the meaning. I don't like the fact that Noah is described to love Violence and that Elle kind of likes it as he wouldn't be him without it. The writing is not the best I know it was by a young author at the time, but you can tell. No character was likeable. Don't do this, don't do that HOW dare you do this.

Though, I enjoyed the film more I think because the storyline in the movie was more emotional considering it was VERY different than the book. Though, it did have its similarities.
