Why Adding Natural Supplements To Your Water is a Good Idea

As more and more individuals become aware of the benefits of natural health additives, attention swings toward vitamin, mineral, and flavor enhancements that are consumed by mixing with drinking water. Since water intake is essential, it makes perfect sense to add nutrients and beneficial inorganic compounds. Besides, many of these additives contain natural flavors that make the water much more enjoyable without introducing calories or other funky chemicals.

Basically, natural additives for water come in several different categories, namely vitamin supplements, mineral supplements, and flavor enhancers. What sets these natural health additives apart from the well-known flavor boosters found at the local supermarket is the lack of artificial flavors and sweeteners. Because the type of product varies according to the active health ingredients, some are totally soluble while others contain compounds that are held in suspension.

Vitamin Additives For Water

Vitamin supplements that are mixed with water are usually manufactured as a powder or as solid soluble droplets. They contain both water soluble and fat soluble natural vitamins and are generally advertised as being high in antioxidant content. Some of these products also contain essential amino acids as well as fat blockers.

These products contain natural flavors and are available in lemon, lime, orange, strawberry, and other varieties. The idea behind vitamin drops and powders is to provide an efficient source of nutrition that is quickly absorbed through the digestive system. Taking vitamins in a dissolved form in water means direct absorption from the intestine into the bloodstream and lymphatic system.

Mineral Compounds

One of the problems with water purification – especially the reverse osmosis procedure – is the elimination of necessary mineral compounds. Purified water has been run through filters that not only traps dangerous organic substances, it also has been strained of many trace elements that are essential for good health.

Trace mineral drops are becoming increasingly popular as a means to remineralize drinking water. These drops are sold in small bottles, with the product being added directly to a glass or pitcher of purified water. Most of the brands manufactured today contain ionic sea minerals that include a hefty amount of such trace elements as calcium, cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, phosphorus, and zinc.

Mineral supplements in drinking water have been carefully prepared in a manner that reduces the size of the mineral particles. In essence, the body must liquefy all nutritionally beneficial substances before they can be used. Most of the mineral additives for drinking water have angstrom-sized mineral particles. This allows for easy absorption through the digestive system and equally efficient cellular assimilation. These liquefied mineral additives have a much higher overall absorption efficiency because the body does not have to spend energy digesting additional compounds found in supplements supplied in pill or capsule form.

Flavor Enhancers

Consumers are wary of these because of the nearly certain addition of artificial ingredients. Research has shown that many sugar substitutes have a negative effect on the body’s ability to absorb nutrients. Even those flavor drops and powders that are marked as containing only natural flavorings often have sugar included as an ingredient.

Familiar sports drinks contain sugars that are not necessary for good health. A healthy diet will include all the carbohydrates necessary. Therefore, choosing a flavor additive that contains natural enhancers without the addition of chemicals is important.

Some of the simplest water flavor enhancers can be made using vegetables that are low in calories. Cucumber is a favorite water flavoring. The juice adds an agreeable taste to the water without additional calories or chemicals being introduced.

Of course, flavored water can be prepared as part of the daily intake requirements for vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. For those who are counting calories, consuming flavored water that contains natural sugars is perfectly acceptable so long as the number of calories is known. Extract of berries, apple, pineapple, etc. are sold in drop or powder form, mixed with herbs or spices such as cinnamon. These products do contain sugars but also introduce antioxidant vitamins and trace minerals. Whichever flavor enhancement is chosen, the important thing to remember is whether the product contains artificially created ingredients and to avoid those whenever possible.

  3. I know that this article is factual for the main reason, that I started using some natural products that I add to my drinking water, and these minerals are making such a difference in me. My inflammation and neuropathy pain is almost gone. I can sleep much better and even my Depression has decreased because of these natural minerals that most of us are deficient in. I am a distributor now, of these products, so if anyone wants more info, please look me up on Facebook and Thank you for this great article. 🙂 Shelly Hargis
