DIY: Raspberry Thyme Adaptogenic Mocktail

I know many people love going out for weekend drinks, but I have never been that kind of girl (dancing – yes, drinking – not so much, lol). It is fun to get together and use all those adorable shot glasses I like collecting, though!

Even better, I can use these fun drinks for added health benefits!

I love using apple cider vinegar or kombucha because both aid digestion. Apple cider vinegar is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, supports healthy digestion for good nutrient absorption, supports blood circulation, and may help with blood sugar levels. You can read more and see the studies in our blog, The Truth About Vinegar (and How to Use It). You can even learn how to make your own DIY apple cider vinegar. Kombucha helps encourage a healthy gut flora and is full of great nutrition. You can learn about kombucha in our blog, Kombucha FAQ. You can also check out our blog, 5 Easy Kombucha Flavors. Plus, learn how to make herbal kombucha!

Raspberries, lemons, oranges, honey, and thyme also have great nutrients to add to your health!

Raspberry Thyme Mocktail

This recipe makes about eight 1-ounce servings. There are two methods to make this mocktail — heat accelerated (like tea) or slow-drawing (like a simple concoction). Both methods are water extractions.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of raspberries
  • 1 lemon, sliced (or a ¼ cup of juice)
  • 1 orange, sliced (or a ¼ cup of juice)
  • 2 tsp. of thyme
  • 2 tsp. of astragalus
  • 1 cup of filtered water
  • 2 tbsp. of honey
  • ½ cup of apple cider vinegar or kombucha

Heated Directions:

Step 1: Mix all ingredients (except honey and ACV/kombucha) in a small pot of water. Heat on med-low for 15 minutes.

Step 2: Strain and squeeze out all the juices. Then, add the honey and ACV/kombucha to mix thoroughly.

Step 3: Pour into shot glasses for a fun little mocktail hour!

Slow Drawing Directions:

Step 1: Heat water to boiling.

Step 2: Mix all ingredients (including the now hot water) in a 1-quart jar with a lid (squeeze the citruses as you put them in).

Step 3: Shake the jar a few times and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. You can strain it if you prefer just the liquid after that, or just go ahead and pour!

Note: If you do this slower method, you can reuse the fruit and herbs for another round (albeit slightly weaker). Refrigerate until used. It will last about 2 days.

If you like mocktails, what is your favorite way to make them?

Rustina started studying herbs and natural living after allopathic medicine was unable to provide answers or support when she needed it. She is continually working on learning more and improving her and her family’s health, diving in and researching any topic. A love of learning led her to homeschool and begin working from home. She now spends each day with her husband and four sons as they travel on their home education journey together. She is thankful for the opportunity to write about these interests and passions for Earthley Wellness and Modern Alternative Mama.
