When I wake up in the morning there are two things that are part of the first half of my day – brushing my teeth and showering. I”ve also always enjoyed scrubs and how smooth my skin is afterward. These two came together last Christmas as gifts – and now they come to you as a wonderful way to wake up in the morning.
Why A Scrub?
Scrubs are easy, versatile, and make great gifts. Scrubs remove dead skin cells and can make your skin feel smooth and soft. By making them yourself your skipping all the nasty ingredients that are in most store bought options and getting the same benefits much more frugally. With mothers day coming up they would be something wonderful to make for the ladies in your life!
Making Your Scrub
You will need:
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup melted coconut oil (or other oil of choice)
- Peppermint essential oil
- Orange essential oil
- Lemon essential oil
- 1 tbs raw honey
Directions:
Start by adding your oil to your sugar. I always melt 1/2 a cup and slowly add while stirring until I reach the consistency I want. You want it to be smooth but not runny. If it becomes to runny add more sugar. To thick add more oil.
Next, add your honey and essential oils. I used:
- 8 drops peppermint
- 3 drops tea tree
- 9 drops orange
- 2 drops lemon
Now you just need to mix everything so that it is all blended well.
Take a small amount of the scrub in your hand and rub in a circular motion on your moistened skin. Wash off when your done! I typically do this while in the shower to keep things from being to messy.
I will be storing mine in a glass jar with a lid.
The oils I used held the main purpose of being a pick-me-up. They are great at getting the mind going and making you feel ready and energized to face the day. Honey is great for acne prone skin and works as a great moisturizer.
That’s It!
Now head to your kitchen and make your own scrub! The ingredients can easily be switched around to whatever you like.
